The definition of a contractor is a person who carries out work for a company but is not an employee. They may be self-employed or work for another company, but their time with a company will be limited depending on the work to be carried out. Typical work carried out by a contractor includes maintenance, repairs and construction work, although any type of work can be contracted out.
