Employers must consult with their employees about health and safety matters. There are separate rules for workplaces with recognised trade unions and those without, although the effect of both sets of rules is the same. Broadly speaking, employers must consult with their employees directly, or through employee health and safety representatives, where they have been appointed.
Comment:
Some employers need to consult under both sets of regulations because some of their employees are members of a recognised trade union and some are not.
