Changes to fire service enforcement

The Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA) has promised to improve how fire safety regulations are enforced. What's the latest?

The CFOA has stated that it would join the government’s Primary Authority scheme in April 2014. This means that businesses with multiple sites spread across the country will be able to choose one enforcement authority as a single point of contact regarding fire safety strategy. This will help to ensure that consistent standards are applied by fire authorities across all UK premises.

When? The exact details of when these initiatives will be launched are unknown at the moment but as soon as we have more detail, we’ll update you.

Positive? We think this is good news - the CFOA recognise that enforcement of fire legislation isn’t good enough and wants to take action. It is delivering a positive message that it will try to be fairer, rather than tougher, on businesses.

The Chief Fire Officers’ Association is making changes which should lead to fairer and more consistent enforcement standards. Changes include the fire service joining the government’s Primary Authority scheme.
