Are you managing workplace stress?

The annual European Week for Safety and Health at Work - commencing 20 October 2014 - is focused on managing stress in the workplace.

What 's happening? The main aim of the week is to increase awareness of stress at work. As such, the European Agency for Safety and Health will be making material, in the form of posters and guidance, available via its own and the HSE’s websites. The Agency is encouraging employers to download the material and to make it available to staff. In addition, it’s suggested that employers run training focused on stress in the workplace and participate in awareness events which are being delivered across the country. These will be publicised locally and on the HSE’s website.

Must you do this? There’s no legal duty to pay any attention to this campaign at all. That said, the HSE and the local authorities do take an active interest in the week and are likely to focus some of their inspection time on it. So if you have the posters up on the wall when an inspector calls, it will get things off to a good start.

European Safety Week 2014, which is from 20 October 2014, is focused on stress in the workplace. There’s no pressure to get involved, but if you want to, there’s free material available online.
