New website launched to help SMEs improve worker involvement

The HSE's "Safe & Sound at Work" website has been launched. What's it about and is it worth checking out?

The law requires it. Consultation with workers is an important legal requirement for all employers, yet this process is not always easy to manage. The HSE has launched a new "Safe & Sound at Work" website which provides targeted guidance for SMEs to help this process. It encourages employers to get their staff involved with health and safety at work.

It is recognised that larger companies often have dedicated people in post to facilitate consultation and encourage worker involvement. However, smaller companies can struggle to manage this effectively due to a lack of resources. The more involved that workers are in health and safety matters, the likelier it is that they will adhere to safety rules and report concerns. This level of input from workers can really help an employer to manage their health and safety obligations.

Check it out. The new website provides step-by-step information to help employers stay on the right side of the law and offer invaluable guidance on how to improve your existing arrangements. It also has free, downloadable information that companies can use in their consultation process. It can be found here

Employers need to make sure that they are consulting with their workers on anything that could affect their health and safety. It's not enough to tell workers what they need to do; they need to be involved in the process and have two-way communication with their employers. This new website provides a useful tool to help facilitate this process. Employers are encouraged to make use of its free resources to help with compliance and communication.
