Residential accommodation safety checklist

This checklist is designed to allow the person with responsibility for residential accommodation to conduct a health and safety inspection of the premises.

What to look at

This checklist covers all the main areas to be found in residential premises, such as hotels, care homes etc., and can be added to or amended to suit your circumstances.

It covers most of the normal health and safety aspects, including the condition of floor coverings to reduce slips, trips and falls; fire precautions, such as signage for fire doors, final exit doors and fire escape routes; condition of electrical outlets and lighting, and the safety of external areas.

On completion of the checklist any failings should be identified in a management action plan and dealt with accordingly.
