- When the CLP* Regulations came fully into force, they triggered changes to the contents of safety data sheets and labels for hazardous substances.

- Under previous legislation, risk and safety phrases were included on packaging and within the safety data sheets. These were known as R-phrases and S-phrases respectively: For example, R45 “May cause cancer” and S2 “Keep out of reach of children”.
- Under the CLP Regulations new terminology was brought in.
