Hearing protection

  • Under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 providing hearing protection is a last resort. Employers must use other means, so far as it is reasonably practicable, to reduce the risk from harmful noise before considering the use of hearing protection.
  • The following requirements apply to the provision of hearing protection. Employers must:
    • provide hearing protection when noise exposure limits are breached
    • if an employee requests hearing protection and the noise level is between the lower and upper limits, you must provide the protection as requested
