What is a lifting operation?
  • Regulation 8(2) of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) defines a lifting operation as “… an operation concerned with the lifting or lowering of a load”. A load is the item(s) being lifted, which can include people.
  • “Lifting equipment” means any piece of equipment that is used for lifting and lowering loads.
  • “Lifting accessories” are anything that is used to secure the load, such as ropes, slings, chains, hooks, etc.
