Regulations. Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers came into force in December 2014. This changed the way in which allergens are labelled on prepacked foods. As a result, food businesses now need to supply information about the allergenic ingredients used in the food they sell or provide.
What are allergens? There are 14 allergens which, by law, are to be included on labelling or via other provided information, e.g. menus. Out of the 14 allergens eight of them are classed as “major” as they cause almost all food allergic reactions.
